Russia Claims North Pole with Flag

Noaa3-2006-0602-1206.jpgWhat in the world are those Soviets doing? A little while ago, I posted a story about how Russia believes it is the sole owner of the North Pole (therefore giving them access to a vast amount of untapped oil). Well, today Putin and company went to a new low… real low… in fact, 13,980 feet low. Apparently Russia felt the need to plant a titanium, non-rusting flag at the bottom of the ocean floor. I guess they think that putting a flag there will let all of us (the rest of the world) know that it is theirs.

Not a chance in frozen Hell that the rest of the world is going to sit by why Russia attempts to take over the North Pole (especially since it belongs to four other states according to international law). Russia is trying to make some vast efforts to become a power in the world again. I think anyone would agree that the countries with oil receive a considerable amount of attention and negotiation power.

It will be interesting to see how the U.N. or similar organizations approach Russia on their outrageous claims. This has the potential of becoming a full blown confrontation. In situations like this, it is always beneficial to look at the worst case scenario… so here is mine:

1. Russia ignores the world community’s sanctions –
2. the U.S. decides to assemble a couple “ally” nations
3. We attack Russia
4. Russia assembles her allies (like Iran… who appears eager to do some killing given their escatology)
5. Israel jumps in the mix, Iran jumps on Israel
6. Iraq remains a sh*thole

Granted that is the worst case scenario and less likely than other options, but just throwing it out there.

  1. hahaha… if it weren’t so sad, it would be even funnier. Why don’t we have hydrogen cars yet? This is getting ridiculous….

  2. I’m not surprised Russia did this. The United States refuses to recognize the claims of some nations to Antarctica.

Yes, we do still have a bipolar world, after all! As Bush famously said, you are either with us or against us.

  3. Well, what the heck are we going to do about it? Russia knows that we are already spread too thin. Maybe we could just steal the damn flag, or perhaps claim we already planted our own. Then the struggle would be 13,980 feet below the surface and over a stupid flag.
Well, I know I’m not going to look for it. Heck with Photo Shop in the mix I bet we even have a settlement there.
All kidding aside it certainly could escalate into a big problem and that is exactly why it was put there.
